They will be able to get a sample ballot at the Office of the Clerk Recorder. They can call the office or drop by the Courthouse elections office to get another mail ballot.  They may have inadvertently opted out of receiving a ballot or just didn’t get one and we would then spoil or void the previously issued ballot when issuing them another.  They can always come and vote in person as well.

SAME DAY REGISTRATION TO VOTE:

What is same-day registration?
Assembly Bill 345 of the 2019 legislative session made same-day voter registration the law in Nevada. Essentially, same-day registration allows a voter to register for the first time or update their existing registration on the same day they vote. While this process is convenient, there are some important details to understand.

How do I same-day register?
If you wish to utilize the same-day registration process during the General Election on Nov. 5 you must have a valid Nevada driver’s license or ID card and you must vote in-person at a polling location. Tribal identification can be used in some circumstances. Any other form of identification, including a military ID or passport, cannot be used for same-day registration to prove your identity. At the polling location you will present your Nevada driver’s license or ID card to the election official and be provided the opportunity to register or update your existing registration. If your Nevada driver’s license or ID card does not have your current residential address you will also need to present a valid proof of residence by presenting one of the following:

The following items can be used as proof of residence:

-A military identification card;

-A utility bill, including, without limitation, a bill for electric, gas, oil, water, sewer, septic, telephone, cellular telephone or cable television service;

-A bank or credit union statement;

-A paycheck;

-An income tax return;

-A statement concerning the mortgage, rental or lease of a residence;

-A motor vehicle registration;

-A property tax statement;

-Any other document issued by a governmental agency; or

-A tribal identification card.

Once you have provided the required identification and completed the registration process, you will be given a ballot. This ballot may be a provisional ballot.

ENDORSEMENTS ON STATE BALLOT QUESTIONS

Question 6 – CCDCC Voted YES on Question 6

Carson City Democrats recommend voting “Yes” on ballot Question 6.  In 1990, Nevadans overwhelmingly approved a referendum that legalized abortion through 24 weeks, a process that ensured any changes to the law would have to be done through the ballot.  The overturning of Roe v. Wade ended federal protections for abortion. Question 6 would shore up those abortion rights by amending the Nevada Constitution.

The proposed amendment to the state Constitution would protect the right to an abortion until fetal viability, which is generally considered about 23 or 24 weeks, or when necessary to protect the life or health of the pregnant patient. This proposed amendment does not require or force any individual in Nevada to have an abortion.  Instead, it creates a right that allows an individual to make their own decision.

 Because this is the first time that voters will weigh in on the ballot question, it must also be approved in the 2026 election for the Constitution to be amended.

Question 7-CCDCC Voted No on Question 7

Carson City Democrats recommend voting “No” on ballot Question 7, Voter ID.  Nevada election integrity is without parallel.  In Nevada, identification is required when registering to vote.  Thereafter, the original signature is matched to the signature given at the polls or on the mail-in ballot. If the match is not clear, the voter is required to show some form of ID. This question is a solution in search of a problem.

A voter ID requirement would mean that fewer eligible people would cast ballots.  The kinds of IDs required cost money and take time to get.  Nevadans living in rural or tribal communities will have to travel long distances to a DMV or some other government agency to receive an ID.  Study after study shows that voter impersonation is extremely rare.

The voter ID question came from an initiative petition.  If approved in 2024, it will appear again on the 2026 ballot and, if approved a second time, the 2027 Legislature would create laws which would be in effect for the 2028 election cycle.

Voting is a right and placing barriers to that right could disenfranchise eligible voters. Even one voter being denied the right so many have fought for is unacceptable.
